“Currently, solar power plants, battery storage systems and electric vehicle charging solutions are attracting the most interest. They are being implemented in places such as the roofs and yards of business parks, commercial properties and housing companies,” says Mika Hytönen, business director of Oomi Solar.
Why are companies interested in renewable energy?
This demand is driven by two strong motives: sustainability and economic benefits. Companies want to operate in an environmentally conscious manner while optimising their energy costs.
“Many companies have ambitious carbon neutrality targets, and customers demand transparency in emissions reductions. Solar power plants are one of the most concrete ways to meet these expectations,” says Hytönen.
“Companies also want to protect themselves against fluctuations in electricity prices. A long-term contract brings predictability and security,” adds Jesse Jokinen, project manager at Oomi Solar.
A solar power plant can help keep electricity prices stable in the long term. A company purchases electricity generated by a solar power plant at a fixed price for a period of 15–20 years, for example. This allows for more accurate budgeting and reduces reliance on market price fluctuations and the network company’s transmission fees.
Smart energy storage
Battery energy storage systems have become increasingly popular, particularly among corporate customers.
“Battery storage systems provide real added value for the company. They are part of Fingrid’s reserve market, which means that the company can generate an exceptionally good return on its invested capital,” says Hytönen.
However, the benefits are not limited to financial gain – operational reliability is also improved.
“Batteries can also improve the quality of the property’s own electricity network and ensure energy supply in industries where power outages can cause costly interruptions to processes,” adds Product Manager Markus Havo.
EV charging facilities enhance the appeal of a property
The popularity of electric vehicles is growing rapidly, and businesses and housing companies are looking to prepare for this trend now. A well-designed charging infrastructure increases the attractiveness of a property for customers, tenants and prospective home buyers alike.
“Charging facilities can be a deciding factor in choosing who to rent business premises from. It is increasingly becoming a key factor in leases,” says Hytönen.
The importance of charging infrastructure is growing rapidly, which is why the solutions must be designed carefully.
“We map out the customer’s actual needs and design a solution based on them. We implement solutions ranging from fast DC charging to slow charging,” says Havo.
Investment not an option? No problem.
Companies can utilise solar energy, charging infrastructure and batteries without any investment. Oomi Solar offers financing models, such as PPA and CaaS, where Oomi owns and operates the system. The customer only pays for its use. In this way, the solar power project is cost-positive from day one.
“With these models, customers enjoy the benefits of sustainability and electricity price stability without tying up capital. This is a particularly attractive option for growing and development-oriented companies,” Hytönen sums up.
Your own ground-mounted power plant? Or a smart hybrid power plant?
If the roof of the company’s property cannot accommodate a solar power plant, a ground-mounted power plant can often be installed in the grounds of the property. The ground-mounted power plant can be installed on an undeveloped area of the plot, such as green strips and the edges of the car park. A ground-mounted power plant is also a very attractive option for large-scale industry. Combining a solar power plant and a battery storage system into a smart hybrid power plant opens up unique opportunities for energy optimisation. The smart hybrid power plant can also be integrated with charging infrastructure to achieve maximum cost savings. All this is also available as a service.
