“Solar power supports our goal of providing our units with carbon-neutral energy,” says Tapio Virtanen, business site manager at Keskimaa Cooperative Society.
Power plants are usually hidden from view, but the details of the ABC Joutsa power plant have been carefully considered and designed to be visually appealing. The power plant is surrounded by an elegant, light-coloured pebble surface. The round pebbles also make the power plant maintenance-free, as vegetation cannot grow through the surface.
“The plans were drawn up in cooperation, and I cannot help but praise the customer for their vision and initiative in carrying out these plans and the groundwork,” says Janne Salmi from Oomi Solar.
Arttu Raitala, business director at Oomi Solar, knows that a successful power plant project is always based on successful planning and close cooperation. The ABC Joutsa project has taken into account the electric vehicle charging stations located on the same property and their future expansion.
“Installation is easy when the casing pipes for the cables are already in place and no separate excavation work is required in areas with traffic. This means that you should always consider making arrangements for the future. It can bring significant savings, as is the case here,” Raitala points out.
The solar power collaboration between Keskimaa Cooperative Society and Oomi Solar has included five different projects. The first project was launched back in 2019. The latest project in Joutsa includes seven racks in two rows. The bifacial panels are located in a fenced area of approximately 50 x 50 metres.
“The energy output of a solar panel field is usually around 10–20 per cent of a unit’s energy needs. With a larger ground-mounted power plant, we can increase Keskimaa Cooperative Society’s self-generation rate,” Virtanen says.
A ground-mounted power plant is usually suitable for customers who have a large amount of unproductive or otherwise suitable land area and whose properties do not have sufficient load-bearing capacity for a roof-mounted system.
“We recommend partnering with Oomi Solar and purchasing a solar power system, especially when self-generated energy can reduce the basic consumption of the property,” Virtanen says.
